FOX NEWS CHANNEL host CHRIS WALLACE and SALEM RADIO NETWORK host MIKE GALLAGHER have issued apologies for joking about KELLY CLARKSON's weight on GALLAGHER's show last week.
On GALLAGHER's show FRIDAY (3/3), after WALLACE joked about GALLAGHER's weight and the two discussed pizza, GALLAGHER told WALLACE not to go "fat shaming" him, after which GALLAGHER joked, "Have you seen KELLY CLARKSON? You know, the singer, KELLY CLARKSON? Holy cow, did she blow up."
After GALLAGHER added, "Well, look at me. I got some weight issues. I could take a little bit of weight off," WALLACE suggested, "She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while, but she's got a great voice." GALLAGHER added, "Well, she had a baby, but man...."
The exchange hit the media courtesy of liberal media watchdog group MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA, after which WALLACE told MEDIAITE, “I sincerely apologize to KELLY CLARKSON for my offensive comment. I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
On his website, GALLAGHER posted, "Tubby MIKE is the last person in the world who should bring up anyone’s weight. I couldn’t possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I 'fat-shamed' this talented and classy entertainer. It was a really stupid thing for me to do."
