A jury in SEDGWICK COUNTY (KS) District Court TUESDAY (3/7) found ANTWON BANKS guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of STECKLINE COMMUNICATIONS/WICHITA employee DANIEL FLORES at the radio group's studio building in FEBRUARY 2014. The jury deliberated for 3 1/2 hours before reaching the verdict.
BANKS had been charged with beating FLORES to death with a fire extinguisher, and a fellow prison inmate testified that BANKS had told him he had gone to the radio facility to track down someone he thought was texting his girlfriend and admitted killing FLORES; prosecutors alleged that FLORES found BANKS writing insults about the girlfriend, a STECKLINE employee, on walls in the building and BANKS attacked him.
Sentencing is scheduled for MAY 22nd. BANKS, who is expected to appeal, faces life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years.
