Former OR MUSIC and A2B MUSIC founder LARRY MILLER has launched his MUSONOMICS podcast on iTUNES and SOUNDCLOUD today.
MUSONOMICS is a new twice-monthly podcast about the business of the music and culture industries, hosted and produced by MILLER with support from the NYU STEINHARDT MUSIC BUSINESS PROGRAM. The podcast will use data, music and interviews with newsmakers and analysts to provide insight into what’s happening now -- and what’s coming next -- in the industry.
The first episode tackles the state of physical retail in the music industry, with a look at the vinyl resurgence tied to this SATURDAY's RECORD STORE DAY. Among the guests: MUSIC BUSINESS ASSOCIATION Pres. JAMES DONIO, RECORD STORE DAY founder MICHAEL KURTZ and veteran MUSICWATCH analyst RUSS CRUPNICK about the future of vinyl, its role in the music ecosystem and the willingness of consumers to pay for music.
Planned future episodes will cover digital music services, the touring and festival business, the connected car, music analytics services, music licensing and copyright.
The podcast is also available on musonomics.com.
MILLER got his start as a production manager for Z/100/NEW YORK before taking on various senior advertising sales and affiliate relations positions at NBC RADIO ENTERTAINMENT before moving to TRIBUNE BROADCASTING in 1990 as Creative Dir. He also co-founded the record label and music publisher OR MUSIC as CEO, signing and developing both LOS LONELY BOYS and MATISYAHU, among others. He also became a partner in LEK CONSULTING and is currently EVP/GM for MEDIANET while also Adjunct Professor and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the NYU-STEINHARDT DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS.
