Student broadcasters at SETON HALL UNIVERSITY station WSOU (89.5 FM PIRATE RADIO)/ SOUTH ORANGE, NJ, have taken first and second place honors in the GARDEN STATE JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION's annual awards competition.
WSOU sports director CLAYTON COLLIER earned first place in the SPORTS RADIO category for his produced introduction to the SETON HALL vs. WICHITA STATE men’s basketball game. Second place in the same category also went to WSOU, as students COLLIER, VINCE PAOLELLA and ROHIT RAVI were recognized for their play-by-play coverage of a WNIT game between the SETON HALL women’s basketball team and PRINCETON.
“In the GSJA awards competition, SETON HALL students compete against professional broadcasters,” said WSOU GM MARK MABEN. “It reflects positively on the education and training that our students receive when WSOU is honored along with stations like WCBS, WNYC, and WGHT.”
The awards will be presented at the association’s 68th Annual Memorial Awards Dinner at THE CHART HOUSE in WEEKHAWKEN, NJ, on WEDNESDAY, MAY 20th. For more information, visit www.gsjournalists.com.
WSOU alumnus JOE GUZIK, current SVP Promotion and Integrated Marketing at RED BULL RECORDS, was named “Indie Label Executive of the Year” at ALL ACCESS' WORLDWIDE RADIO SUMMIT last week. A member of the class of 1995, Guzik was active at WSOU throughout his time as an undergraduate student at SETON HALL.
