ALPHA MEDIA Country KYKX (105.7), Classic Country KKUS (THE RANCH 104.1), Regional Mexican KOYE (LA INVASORA 96.7), and Classic Hits KOOI (SUNNY 106.5)/TYLER-LONGVIEW, TX recently partnered with the local CBS-TV affiliate, CBS19, for an emergency drive to assist victims of the EF3 tornado that struck VAN, TX on MONDAY, MAY 11th. Two lives were lost with many more injured, and approximately 30% of the town's structures were damaged or destroyed during the early morning tornado. ALPHA MEDIA/EAST TEXAS organized the impromptu drive to urge EAST TEXAS residents to donate nonperishable items, cash, and clothing to help the citizens of VAN in time of need.
Each of the four ALPHA stations broadcast live from locations that served as drop-off points for listener donations, and the ALPHA studios also served as a drop-off point. In less than 24 hours, almost $5,000 was raised as well as approximately $10,000 worth of food, water, clothing, and personal hygiene items. The donations filled a box truck and five other vehicles and were delivered by ALPHA staffers directly to relief agencies on TUESDAY, MAY 12th. Cash donations and gift cards are still being accepted at the ALPHA studios (4408 US Hwy 259 North, LONGVIEW, TX, 75605).
