With DAVID ENSOR completing his tenure as Director of the VOICE OF AMERICA (NET NEWS 4/8), KELU CHAO, Dir./Performance Review, INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING BUREAU and Acting Chief of Staff, is taking over as Acting Director.
CHAO joined the VOA in 1980 and has worked on-air as a host and reporter as well as a Bureau Chief and Service Chief to the EAST ASIA Division Director. She headed the VOA's Language Programming Directorate in 2002-2007 before moving to the IBB.
ENSOR posted at the VOA website, "It has been an honor to serve as the 28th director of the VOICE OF AMERICA. The VOA team can be enormously proud of what we have accomplished together. In the last four years, VOA has faced many challenges: from shrinking budgets, to propaganda broadcasts from RUSSIA and CHINA, to the rise of ISIS and an outbreak of Ebola. VOA has also had to defend itself from sometimes ill-conceived legislative and internal reform proposals."
