Fifteen news media outlets are partnering on tests of news-gathering drones being conducted at VIRGINIA TECH.
ABC, ADVANCE PUBLICATIONS (NEWHOUSE/CONDE NAST), BELO, AP, CAPITOL BROADCASTING CO., SCRIPPS, FUSION, GANNETT, GETTY IMAGES, NBCUNIVERSAL, THE NEW YORK TIMES, SINCLAIR, THOMSON REUTERS LLC, UNIVISION, and THE WASHINGTON POST are in a coalition working with the VIRGINIA TECH MID-ATLANTIC AVIATION PARTNERSHIP on the project, which aims to test safety and effectiveness of drones in the news-gathering process and new rules promulgated by the FAA, which established TECH as one of six test sites for drone research.
The coalition has been working with the HOLLAND AND KNIGHT LLP law firm and TECH since mid-2014, consulting with the FAA and constructing the test.
