The three CHICAGO-area radio stations collectively known as NEWSWEB RADIO's NINE-FM have announced that, effective SEPTEMBER 18, they will air no more than 6 minutes of commercials each hour.
"I am not sure a station has played so few commercials per hour since the birth of FM radio," says NEWSWEB VP and Group Station Manager HARVEY WELLS. "Fortunately, as locally-owned, independent radio stations, we can serve our listeners and advertisers on Main Street as opposed to having to worry about investors on Wall Street."
Continued WELL, "We are going to make it possible for every advertiser to stand on its own by playing only sixty seconds of advertising per commercial break. This means that in most instances there will be only one (1) sixty-second commercial played before we get back to music. An advertiser who buys a sixty second commercial will now own its position on the radio station."
