Former WVON/Chicago Host/GM Lucky Cordell Dies At 86

Former WVON-A/CHICAGO host, MD and GM MOSES "LUCKY" CORDELL has died from injuries sustained in a fire caused by smoking at his South Side CHICAGO home on JUNE 29th, reports ABC O&O WLS-TV (ABC 7). He was 86.
CORDELL and his daughter PAT, 60, were rescued by firefighters after the heat turned away police who arrived on the scene first. Both CORDELLS were taken to UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO MEDICAL CENTER, where LUCKY CORDELL passed away TUESDAY (7/7). PAT remains in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
CORDELL, a MISSISSIPPI native, began his career after serving in the military, joining WGES-A/CHICAGO in 1952, then hosting at WGRY-A/GARY, IN and several CHICAGO stations before joining WVON, becoming PD/MD in 1965, Assistant GM in 1968, and GM in 1970.
