KCMO-A/Kansas City And Police Officer Raise Funds For Shoplifter's Family In Need

CUMULUS News-Talk KCMO-A/KANSAS CITY raised money this SATURDAY (7/11) for the children of a woman who shoplifted from WALMART to provide diapers and wipes for them.  The woman's plight had moved a police officer to pay for the items out of his own pocket, leading to widespread news coverage of the touching incident.

Both the woman, SARAH ROBINSON, who is trying to support 2-year-old twin daughters as well as 4-, 12-, and 15-year old girls, and the officer, MARK ENGRAVALLE, were on hand at the ROELAND PARK Police station for the fundraiser, supporting the KCMO/OFFICER MARK ENGRAVALLE HELP THE KIDS DRIVE.  Listeners donated cash, diapers, baby wipes, clothing, blankets, food, toiletries and other items.

PD STEVE SUTTON said,  "For two hours, cars came into the lot and it rained cash, baby wipes and diapers. SARAH was in a different WALMART FRIDAY night and a woman tried to snatch her purse. Fingernail marks were visible on SARAH’s chest, where her assailant tried to grab her. Know what she did? She paid it forward: she had a long talk with the purse snatcher—and then gave her two gift cards. This remarkable story grows legs every minute. One guy pulled into the lot and handed over a $1,000 check."
