Former syndicated radio political talker ED SCHULTZ' "THE ED SHOW" is among the shows being canceled by MSNBC in the cable network's programming shakeup, reports POLITICO.
SCHULTZ' show, along with "THE CYCLE" and "NOW WITH ALEX WAGNER," are apparently casualties of MSNBC's purge, which is aimed at getting the mostly liberal-leaning news and talk network out of the ratings basement. NBC NEWS commentator CHUCK TODD has been widely tipped to host a new show to replace SCHULTZ, who continues to host a podcast; the other shows will reportedly be replaced by a news block, although the participation of BRIAN WILLIAMS has not yet been confirmed.
The cancellation disappointed at least one prominent fan, presidential candidate Sen. BERNIE SANDERS (I-VT), who expressed his dismay over parent COMCAST's decision, saying, "I am very disappointed that COMCAST chose to remove ED SCHULTZ from its lineup. We need more people who talk about the real issues facing our country, not fewer. At a time when a handful of large, multinational corporations own our major media outlets, I hope they will allow voices to be heard from those who dissent from the corporate agenda."
