Nearly 18,000 people gathered at DRUID HILL PARK on SATURDAY, JULY 25th to help the city heal from the protests and riots after the death of FREDDIE GRAY.
RADIO ONE Founder/Chairperson CATHY HUGHES opened the ONE BALTIMORE UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY FESTIVAL with prayers for peace and non-violence.
MAYOR STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE officially declared it UNITY DAY. The event featured eight hours of inspiration and gospel performances.
Residents, members of the faith community, and politicians united at this family-friendly event hosted BY RADIO ONE’s newest station, PRAISE 106.1. The purpose was to show solidarity and commitment to empowering and uniting BALTIMORE in peace.
Mayor STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE said, “I’m grateful to CATHY HUGHES and the RADIO ONE family for thinking enough of BALTIMORE to do this. She wanted to invest in the healing of BALTIMORE.”
RADIO ONE BALTIMORE VP/GM HOWARD MAZER added, “I believe this event was a catalyst for change. When 18,000 people can gather peacefully for the purpose of prayer, praise, empowerment and fun then I know BALTIMORE is on its way to healing,”
Gospel performances included JOR'DAN ARMSTRONG, JJ HAIRSTON & YOUTHFUL PRAISE, CANTON JONES, DAMON LITTLE, DAVID & TAMELA MANN, VASHAWN MITCHELL, JASON NELSON, KAREN CLARK SHEARD, ALEXIS SPIGHT, UNCLE REESE, BRITTANY WRIGHT, and BALTIMORE's OWN MAURETTE BROWN CLARK.
