Veteran Twin Cities Sports Reporter Gene Harrington Dies At 86

Condolences to family and friends of longtime former MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL sports radio reporter and host GENE HARRINGTON, who died TUESDAY (8/4) at 86, according to the MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE.

HARRINGTON, according to a 2011 column by JIM SOUHAN in the STAR TRIBUNE, started in radio as a page at WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS, then left the TWIN CITIES to work in GREENVILLE, MS, GREAT FALLS, MT, and then to then-ABC affiliate KNTV (TV)/SAN JOSE.  While in SAN JOSE, HARRINGTON took an offer to represent the Exer-Genie exercise device in the UPPER MIDWEST, which led to his hiring by VINCE LOMBARDI as the GREEN BAY PACKERS' conditioning coach for a brief stretch in the mid-1960s.  He returned to broadcasting as a sportscaster at HUBBARD's KSTP-A/ST. PAUL-MINNEAPOLIS, hosting SATURDAY nights, and worked into his 80s as a sports correspondent for MINNESOTA NEWS NETWORK and other outlets.
