"Johnny B." To Do Mornings At The Loop

As first hinted last week (NET NEWS 10/7), EMMIS Classic Rocker WLUP (THE LOOP)/CHICAGO has inked JONATHON BRANDMEIER to do mornings, beginning OCTOBER 27th. BRANDMEIER, a veteran of WLUP from 1983-1997, most recently did wakeups at KCBS-F/LOS ANGELES until the station adopted the present JACK-FM format back in MARCH.  A press release should be forthcoming later this week.

According to coverage in the CHICAGO TRIBUNE, EMMIS Pres. RICK CUMMINGS had not countersigned the deal as of this past weekend, but WLUP & WKQX VP/GM MARV NYREN said, "It's the most exciting announcement in CHICAGO radio in five or 10 years.  The one thing that [BRANDMEIER} brings is instant name recognition and popularity probably second to none in the history of CHICAGO radio."
