A survey of the Top 10 most streamed artists on several popular streaming services shows that SOUNDCLOUD users are way more adventurous in their choices than either SPOTIFY or YOUTUBE, according to an article on FORBES.COM.
The Top 10 SOUNDCLOUD artists: DRAKE, MAJOR LAZER, G-EAZY, FUTURE, KYGO, PARTYNEXTDOOR, CHRIS BROWN, KID INK, THE WEEKND and CHANCE THE RAPPER.
Top 10 on SPOTIFY: CALVIN HARRIS, CHRIS BROWN, DRAKE, ED SHEERAN, PITBULL, SAM SMITH, DAVID GUETTA, NICKI MINAJ and ELLIE GOULDING.
Top 10 on YOUTUBE: MAROON 5, KATY PERRY, RIHANNA, NICKY JAM, ARIANA GRANDE, ED SHEERAN, ENRIQUE IGLESIAS, BEYONCE, DAVID GUETTA and MEGHAN TRAINOR.
Only four artists -- DRAKE, ED SHEERAN, CHRIS BROWN and DAVID GUETTA -- appear on more than one list, and none appear on all three.
The article concludes that SOUNDCLOUD users are more prone to try new things and are interested in music discovery, not just listening to Top 40 hits: "As the streaming service looks towards a more profitable and legitimate business model — one including advertising — it is likely that SOUINDCLOUD is interested in knowing as much as possible about its users, and with showing marketers why money should be flowing its way and not to the bevy of other online options for listening to music. Plenty of brands have wisened up and are realizing that it isn’t just about partnering with the biggest stars anymore, where getting a good return on an investment can be tough. If companies are smart, and they are interested in working with up-and-coming acts, SOUNDCLOUD — and the independent, up-and-coming acts that make it what it is — might be the best way to go."
