LEARFIELD SPORTS' new multimedia rights deal with NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY (NET NEWS 7/26) has borne fruit with the addition of KD RADIO Oldies KDSK-A-K229CL/ALBUQUERQUE as the new home for AGGIE football, men's basketball, and coaches' shows in that market, and the addition of KYVA-A/GALLUP for select games. As previously announced (NET NEWS 8/3), ADAMS RADIO GROUP Sports KWML-A-K283CG (FOX SPORTS AM 570 THE TICKET)/LAS CRUCES, NM will serve as flagship for football, men's basketball, and coaches' shows, with WP BROADCASTING Sports KNMZ (ESPN ALAMOGORDO 103.7)/ALAMOGORDO and KAMQ, INC. Sports KAMQ-A (1240 ESPN)/CARLSBAD on the network and NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY Variety KRUX/LAS CRUCES carrying women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball in an initiative that will train students to announce the games. JACK NIXON returns for his 36th year as the voice of the AGGIES.
"One of LEARFIELD SPORTS main strengths is their knowledge of radio and broadcast production as well as their ability to build strong statewide radio networks!" said the school's Dir./Athletics MARIO MOCCIA. "We asked them to deliver the AGGIES across the entire state of NEW MEXICO and in an unbelievably short period of time they have made great strides. While we are always looking at expanding (EL PASO, northern NEW MEXICO and Spanish language broadcasts) we are pleased with their strong start out of the gate. I am also pleased that our Olympic sports will receive coverage over the air as well which will continue the emphasis we place on their importance."
