CBS RADIO Sports WJFK (106.7 THE FAN)/WASHINGTON will air GEORGETOWN HOYAS men's basketball this season under a new multi-year deal between the station and FOX SPORTS MEDIA GROUP's GEORGETOWN SPORTS PROPERTIES. RICH CHVOTKIN returns for his 42nd year as the voice of the HOYAS; games bumped by conflicts with WASHINGTON CAPITALS hockey, which has priority on 106.7, will be heard on sister News WNEW (ALL NEWS 99.1). The HOYAS had been heard for the last 17 seasons on crosstown RED ZEBRA Sports WTEM-A (ESPN 980).
“We’re very excited to announce this partnership with 106.7 THE FAN and for them to serve as the radio network for GEORGETOWN Basketball for fans listening to legendary broadcaster RICH CHVOTKIN,” GEORGETOWN Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs DAN O’NEIL said. “The quality programming the station provides in the WASHINGTON and BALTIMORE markets will allow GEORGETOWN fans great access to our gameday coverage.”
“106.7 THE FAN is the market leader for play-by-play sports in WASHINGTON, and we couldn’t be happier to provide HOYAS fans with greater access to HOYAS games and content,” said PD CHRIS KINARD. “D.C. is a premiere college basketball town, and GEORGETOWN is a powerhouse program under Coach JOHN THOMPSON III.”
“The most important thing to us was really enhancing the brand and getting it further exposure into the marketplace, and you guys are the powerhouse in this area,” said GEORGETOWN SPORTS PROPERTIES GM JEFF AJLUNI. “Getting on the FM band was really important to us. It’s really all about the HOYAS brand, getting it more exposed in the marketplace and delivering better value to our fans.”
