MEDIA MINISTRIES Contemporary Christian KBMQ (88.7 THE CROSS)/MONROE, LA closed out their recent Sharathon 24 hours early at 102% of the goal. Teaming up with SHAREMEDIA SERVICES, they had 982 callers in two days, raising $128,000. But that's not the most amazing point of the event.
As GM JEREMIAH BECK explains, "Three weeks ago, we were alerted to the passing of a 10-year-old boy named BLADE GILBRETH who died in a freak bicycle accident. We prayed for the family at the tearful request of a friend, and helped them raise money for the funeral expenses. However, as is often the case, we never really heard much more about this unfortunate situation until Day 2 of our Fall Fundraiser.
"BLADE’s mom DAWN called to talk with me about making a donation. She tearfully gave her testimony, thanking GOD for providing her and her other six children with peace, and friends who helped the family in a variety of ways, and that she’d never felt more loved even in the midst of tragedy, and that 88.7 THE CROSS had been a significant source of comfort.
"She’d heard us praying for the family. Friends had told DAWN that we’d spread the word about their GOFUNDME account. So she and her husband donated $1,250 or 1% of our total need, plus 10 cents for BLADE, who was 10 years old, and for ISAIAH 41:10, which had helped their family.
"DAWN and I prayed at length in my office over the phone, and then I asked if I could share the story, and she agreed. When I did, we played MATT MAHER’s song, 'Lord, I Need You,' immediately afterward, and DAWN quickly called back.
"She had listened to the whole thing in her car, and wanted me to know that while she and her husband performed CPR on BLADE, waiting for the ambulance, the song they sang was 'Lord, I Need You.' At that moment, during our fundraiser, she had been given a gift from the Lord, that He was still carefully watching over them, and paying close attention, and that everything was going to be okay.
"I’ve never been a part of a right song at the right time moment quite as tearfully perfect as that before."
