APPLE MUSIC, which launched at the end of JUNE (NET NEWS 6/30) tells THE NEW YORK POST that some 15 million users are already on board. The paper reports, "The figure is said to be a home run for APPLE MUSIC execs, whose projected number was on par, but who conceded that a slow first-quarter ramp-up would be the norm, sources said."
There are likely to be smiles around the APPLE MUSIC business offices, as close to half of those who signed up for the service have not turned off auto-pay. That means they’ll become paid customers when the free three-month trial ends on SEPT. 30th.
THE POST notes, "If those 7.5 million APPLE subscribers stay with the service after the gratis period, the company will have more than a third of SPOTIFY’s 20 million paid subscribers. SPOTIFY launched globally eight years ago and in the U.S. in JULY 2011."
"If APPLE reports between 30 million and 50 million trialists by year-end, then we can consider it successful,”MIDiA RESEARCH music industry analyst MARK MULLIGAN told THE POST, adding, “more than five million paying subscribers would be a success. Above seven million would be a strong success.”
