iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk WHO-A/DES MOINES' SIMON CONWAY held his second annual barbecue in the WHO parking lot last week and raised $6,000, $2,000 more than last year's total, for the PUPPY JAKE FOUNDATION, which obtains, raises, and trains service dogs for veterans. CONWAY pulled in donations of 200 pounds of meat from a supermarket, 500 buns from a baker, and the cooking services of a "grilling champion" for the event.
CONWAY said, “Once again, my audience has stood up in a huge way to help Veterans in our community. We were non-stop with people driving through, picking up 'free' sandwiches and throwing heaps of cash in the donation buckets. Not only did loads of people come out to support us, we even had a Navy SEAL team turn up! Also on hand were dogs — lots of them — including the first dog to have been given to a veteran, the original PUPPY JAKE himself, my own Chocolate Lab, REAGAN, and a couple of eight week old puppies.”
CONWAY has raised over $35,000 directly and was part of another $60,000 in 2015 charity drives. “We’re not done yet!," he added. There will be a winter bowling event in which we will train some of the dogs themselves to bowl.”
