Longtime BCA Sports XEPRS-A (MIGHTY 1090)/SAN DIEGO host "COACH" JOHN KENTERA has exited the station after 12 years. KENTERA, who has been on SAN DIEGO Sports radio for 25 years, told the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE that "it was just time to step away" but that he is "not done with broadcasting ... I'd like to stay in the business in some capacity."
A statement from Pres./Market Manager MIKE GLICKENHAUS said, "It is with mixed emotions that I want to inform you that COACH JOHN KENTERA has decided to resign from MIGHTY 1090/BCA effective today. JOHN has been an important part of the development of the MIGHTY 1090 from its very beginnings and he has been a positive force in the SAN DIEGO sports scene for an even longer period of time. He has been a constant on the SAN DIEGO airwaves for over twenty five years beginning with a high school sports show on SAN DIEGO’s original sports station XTRA SPORTS 690. JOHN has been involved with most of the SAN DIEGO teams over the years including CHARGERS, SDSU, SOCKERS and of course most recently with the SAN DIEGO PADRES post game show. We sincerely appreciate JOHN’s contributions and wish him and his family all the best for the future."
CHRIS ELLO will fill in on KENTERA's evening shift while the station decides on a successor for KENTERA.
