KEN STERN has been promoted to CEO of NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO, effective OCTOBER 1. STERN has been NPR's Exec. VP since NOVEMBER 1999 and will now assume all management responsibility for the organization.
STERN will succeed KEVIN KLOSE, who joined NPR as Pres./CEO in DECEMBER 1998. KLOSE will continue as Pres., charged with the development of an initiative designed to strengthen public radio's financial resources; he will also remain a member of NPR's board of directors, to which both he and STERN will report.
