CUMULUS MEDIA and IMG have inked a multi-year deal to keep UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE sports on Country WIVK and Sports WNML-A-F/KNOXVILLE. The stations have been part of the IMG VOL NETWORK for 40 years.
CUMULUS KNOXVILLE VP/Market Manager KEN SALYER said, “This agreement allows our local broadcast team to continue an historic tradition between WIVK/WNML, our local community, and the VOL NETWORK. Through the years, WIVK and WNML have provided the opportunity for staff members such as BOBBY DENTON, MIKE KEITH, JOHN WILKERSON, MICKEY DEARSTONE, BOB KESLING, and dozens more to become household names across the VOL NETWORK. As an EAST TENNESSEE native who grew up listening to the legendary JOHN WARD and BILL ANDERSON provide lasting memories to the VOL Nation, it is an honor and a privilege to secure the tradition of TENNESSEE sports on our stations for years to come.”
IMG VOL NETWORK GM STEVE EARLY said, “Over the last 40-plus years, we can’t imagine a better working relationship between a Network and its flagship station than the IMG VOL NETWORK and WIVK/WNML. Our staffs work together hand-in-hand to bring UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE fans the highest-quality programming. We are excited this special TENNESSEE tradition will continue with WIVK and WNML as Home of the VOLS in KNOXVILLE and the EAST TENNESSEE area.”
CUMULUS/WESTWOOD ONE SVP/Sports BRUCE GILBERT added, “We’re incredibly proud and honored to continue this legendary partnership with the IMG VOL NETWORK. The UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE has a rich history of tremendous athletics and all of us at CUMULUS and WESTWOOD ONE consider it an honor to document those performances for many years to come.”
