CUMULUS MEDIA Top 40 KSMB/LAFAYETTE, LA PD/morning mavin BOBBY NOVOSAD shares with ALL ACCESS, "I recently found out one of my longtime employees, LUIS 'TACO' FLORES, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. The guy is an icon in our market for 30 years and is not even on the air. For many years, he drove our KSMB Giant Jambox to hundreds of festival parades, remotes, bars and nightclubs, school appearances and grand openings. He was also a security guy at our club mixshow for 10 years at Nitetown in downtown LAFAYETTE. Up until recently, he worked security at all UL-LAFAYETTE sporting events, Mardi Gras festivals and the Cajun Heartland State Fair. The guy is more recognized in public than most air personalities."
"He is also the guy that would help anyone, including other radio stations in the market," NOVOSAD added. "If they were setting up at an event and he was working security, TACO would lend a hand. I decided to create a benefit for my best friend, the guy that always worked when we were playing."
"'This 1 Is For TACO' is happening WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25th at Nitetown," said NOVOSAD. "We have three bands lined up. BROTHER JAC is a local rock band (because TACO is a major rock fan), KEITH FRANK (major zydeco artist here) and hometown artist, CUPID (“Cupid Shuffle”), and his band will close out the night. We already have several items to auction off as door prizes. If any label reps that have worked our market and likely remember TACO from some of the shows you brought to LAFAYETTE, we would love any items you can provide for the auction that night."
In a show of solidarity, NOVOSAD wanted to make sure to get the word out to all of SOUTH LOUISIANA, "especially since this is happening THANKGING week -- so I did the unthinkable. I contacted DJ DIGITAL, PD at TOWNSQUARE Top 40/Rhythmic KHXT (HOT 107.9) along with his morning show host CHRIS REED, and asked them if we could do a simultaneous live break in morning drive on both of our stations. Without hesitation, they agreed. 94.5 KSMB and HOT 107.9 have been in a furious battle for over ten years. It was a great feeling for all of us to 'stop the crap' for once, and instead combine our talents and resources, and do something great to help someone. Much respect!"
The event is being promoted on just about every radio station and website in the market including all CUMULUS MEDIA stations, TOWNSQUARE, DELTA MEDIA stations, "as well as BIG 102.1/CROWLEY, LA, PURE COUNTRY 106.7/RAYNE, LA and KBON, a Cajun & Zydeco format station in EUNICE, LA.
