KUDOS to SCRIPPS Country KFDI/WICHITA, Rock KICT/WICHITA, and Regional Mexican KYQQ/WICHITA, which took home the TONY JEWELL Community Service Award from last NIGHT's (10/19) KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS AWARDS for the six-week "BAND TOGETHER" campaign (NET NEWS 8/18/2014) to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. The campaign included on-air promos, special public affairs programming, and KFDI news segments.
"A mother whose teenaged son, AUSTIN, received serious brain injuries after a texting-while-driving accident was a featured speaker at school assemblies hosted by our radio station personalities," explained SCRIPPS VP/Programming and VP/GM WICHITA Operations BEVERLEE BRANNIGAN. "On-air personalities from KFDI, KICT, and KYQQ, along with the KFDI News staff, share in the recognition of the TONY JEWELL Community Service Award."
Additionally, KFDI took home additional awards in the Large Market Radio category at the Awards Banquet, including first place of Complete Severe Weather Coverage, Complete Newscast, and Spot News, as well as Honorable Mention in the Special Program category. "Most proud of our WICHITA team bringing home the 2015 TONY JEWELL Community Service Award," said SCRIPPS/WICHITA OM JUSTIN CASE. "The 'BAND TOGETHER' don't text and drive campaign was a cluster project that involved everyone in our building and many layers. We also won first place for Public Service Announcement series associated with our campaign."
