Get out your scorecards: Following INDEPENDENCE MEDIA's acquisition of three REGENT stations in PEORIA, IL (NET NEWS 9/19), INDEPENDENCE has flipped Religion WVEL-F at 101.1 to Hot AC WXMP; the old WXMP at 105.7 is now REGENT's Active Rock WIXO.
INDEPENDENCE has also flipped Contemporary Christian WPIA at 98.5 to Top 40/Mainstream -- the same format now being simulcast on the old WWCT at 96.5 (NET NEWS 9/21), which is owned by AAA ENTERTAINMENT but LMA'd by INDEPENDENCE.
Finally, INDEPENDENCE has debuted STEVE PERUN-consulted Variety Hits WRXP (PIRATE RADIO) at 99.9, WIXO's former home.
All these moves follow recent flips by KELLY COMMUNICATIONS Jazz WPMJ to Oldies (NET NEWS 9/11) and TRIAD Oldies WPBG to Classic Hits (NET NEWS 8/29). WPMJ's BOB KELLY tells ALL ACCESS, "I don't know if I have ever heard of so many changes happening in less than a month in a single market."
