Three hours after listening to the broadcast of his pre-taped final episode of "THE BIG BROADCAST" on AMERICAN UNIVERSITY News-Talk WAMU/WASHINGTON, market legend ED WALKER passed away early MONDAY morning (10/26) at 83. WALKER had been battling cancer and had announced his retirement 10 days ago (NET NEWS 10/16).
WALKER, 83, was a NATIONAL RADIO HALL OF FAME honoree who paired with WILLARD SCOTT as WOL-A, WRC-A, and WWDC-A's long-running "JOY BOYS" and also worked at WPGC-A, WMAL-A, and WWRC-A. He hosted old-time-radio series "THE BIG BROADCAST" at WAMU, which he helped establish in 1951 (as a carrier-current AM) while attending as the school's first blind student, since 1990.
