Condolences to family and friends of former EMMIS Top 40/Rhythmic WQHT (HOT 97)/NEW YORK Exec. Producer JAKE RAY, who died on OCTOBER 19th, four days after his 40th birthday.
"PRODUCER JAKE" had battled cystic fibrosis for his entire life, living to the age of 40 despite being told at age 12 he would not live to see 18; he had received three lung transplants and one transplanted kidney while continuing his success in radio, working at KHFI/AUSTIN with the ALLEN AND KAREN show, at KLOL/HOUSTON's STEVENS AND PRUETT morning show, and brief stops at KDGE (THE EDGE)/DALLAS and WPYX/ALBANY, moving on to JACKIE AND BENDER at KBKS (KISS 106.1)/SEATTLE, STEVE AND VIKKI at WSTR (STAR 94.1)/ATLANTA, and, finally, NEW YORK, where he worked first on MISS JONES' show at HOT 97. then with NICK CANNON's morning show at then-WXRK (92.3 NOW FM), and again at HOT 97 producing CIPHA SOUNDS and PETER ROSENBERG's morning show.
He also was a stand-up comic who was elected to the NEW YORK chapter of the FRIARS CLUB. He appeared on a 2010 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL show, "THE WITCH DOCTOR WILL SEE YOU NOW," trying traditional Chinese cures to see if they could help with his loss of the sense of smell. RAY also consulted other stations via his MORNINGPRODUCERONCALL.COM site.
Memorial donations In lieu of flowers may be made to CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION, TEXAS GULF COAST Chapter, 50 Briar Hollow Lane, Suite 250 E, HOUSTON, TX 77027.
