As if the past six days or so weren't already incredible for MERCURY NASHVILLE’s CHRIS STAPLETON, now sales for his CMA Album Of The Year winner, “Traveller” have skyrocketed since WEDNESDAY’s (11/4) CMA AWARDS. Following the show, STAPLETON sold 177,000 equivalent album units and 153,000 pure album sales for the week ending THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5th according to NIELSEN MUSIC – just one day after the CMAs – to rank #1 on the all-genre album sales chart. His previous sales total for the album, which debuted in MAY, were 96,000.
But other CMA performers from last week’s nationally televised awards show also had a strong week. CARRIE UNDERWOOD is right behind STAPLETON with 73,000 in pure album sales. And, ERIC CHURCH’s release, “Mr. Misunderstood,” which he sprung on fans the day before the CMAs checks in at #3, with 71,000 pure album sales, in just 48 hours of availability.
Back to STAPLETON: The song “TENNESSEE Whiskey,” which he performed with JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE on the CMAs is the #2 selling digital song of the week, racking up 131,000 downloads. The TIMBERLAKE track “Drink You Away," which he and STAPLETON also performed, moved 76,000 downloads to rank #6; “Traveller's" title track also showed up, selling 25,000 to rank #40. In addition to Album Of The Year honors, STAPLETON walked home with Male Vocalist and Best New Artist awards at last week’s CMAs (NET NEWS 11/5).
