Can ENTERCOM find some relief from the payments it has to make under its deal to air BOSTON RED SOX baseball on Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON? The BOSTON HERALD's INSIDE TRACK reports that a new deal that keeps the SOX on WEEI but at a rate easier to handle than the existing $200 million, 10 year contract is in the works, and ENTERCOM market manager PHIL ZACHARY told the HERALD that the parties "hope to have a new deal in place by CHRISTMAS."
The original deal was made in 2006 and had options for 2017 and 2018; ZACHARY did not discuss terms of a new deal but denied rumors that the station would pay nothing, give the SOX the airtime, and let the SOX sell the inventory. He also noted that he signed a new contract of his own on OCTOBER 20th to remain at the helm of the ENTERCOM BOSTON cluster and that the stations are "having a terrific year on both the ratings and revenue fronts, and I want to enjoy the ride."
