MEDIABASE has announced that effective with the airplay week of DECEMBER 27th, 2015-JANUARY 2nd, 2016, they will retire the Mainstream Rock format. Stations currently reporting to the Mainstream Rock format will be reclassified in one of three categories:
• Active Rock Published Panel
• Active Rock All Stations
• Classic Rock PanelMEDIA MONITORS/MEDIABASE Pres. PHILIPPE GENERALI said, "We have been considering this move for awhile with EVP/Music and Partner Integration, ALISSA POLLACK, and our Mediabase Chart Consultant, ANTHONY ACAMPORA. The Mainstream Rock and Active Rock stations over time have become more closely aligned, with the larger markets only slightly more recurrent in nature. Adding these highly-rated Mainstream Rock stations to the Active Rock format will greatly enhance the overall Active Rock panel. With support from our label partners and our longtime friends in the radio industry, consolidating the Active Rock and Mainstream Rock formats will increase the audience of the top songs on the Mediabase Active Rock chart."
This reclassification will take place on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20th. This will allow for LW trending on the first Published chart of 2016.
MEDIABASE will continue to evaluate the new Active Rock panel after the first of the year via feedback from both record companies and radio stations. Archive data for Mainstream Rock will still be available via the MEDIABASE website.
