CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WKLS (96 ROCK)/ATLANTA "THE REGULAR GUYS" morning co-host LARRY WACHS took the "80 mph Challenge" from the mound at TURNER FIELD and came close, topping out at 72 mph on his third and last pitch. WACHS, a longtime amateur pitcher, told listeners earlier this year that he could throw an 80 mph fastball, and the BRAVES gave him a chance to try from the mound before the BRAVES-METS game TUESDAY night. The results impressed BRAVES pitching coach ROGER MCDOWELL even though WACHS fell 8 mph short of his goal.
Video of the crafty lefthander's performance will be posted WEDNESDAY at 96rock.com.
