VIC ELIASON, the evangelist who founded the VCY AMERICA media company in WISCONSIN, has passed away at 79, the company has announced. ELIASON died SATURDAY (12/5) after a long battle with cancer.
ELIASON was Director of MILWAUKEE YOUTH FOR CHRIST when he began "SACRED STYLINGS" on WBON/MILWAUKEE in 1961. The show eventually spawned a full schedule of religious programming, and ELIASON's group, renamed WISCONSIN VOICE OF CHRISTIAN YOUTH, bought WBON for $315,000 in 1970. He launched WVCY-TV/MILWAUKEE in 1983 and hosted a nightly show on the station as well as a national daily radio talk show. The company owns a network of full-power and FM translator noncommercial stations airing VCY religious programming across the Upper MIDWEST.
The company will now be run by JIM SCHNEIDER, who will assume the position of Executive Director.
