The BASEBALL HALL OF FAME has named SAN DIEGO PADRES TV voice DICK ENBERG as the 2016 FORD C. FRICK Award, honoring baseball's legendary broadcasters. ENBERG will be honored at the HALL OF FAME Awards Presentation on JULY 25th.
ENBERG, best known nationally for his network play-by-play work on several sports for NBC and CBS, called CALIFORNIA ANGELS baseball in 1968-78 on KMPC-A and KTLA (TV)/LOS ANGELES and joined the PADRES broadcasts in 2010. He called LOS ANGELES RAMS football on KMPC in 1966-77 and NFL football for WESTWOOD ONE in 2006-07, and has hosted game shows including "SPORTS CHALLENGE" and "BAFFLE." He will retire after the 2016 season.
“DICK ENBERG’s unmistakable voice and remarkable enthusiasm for the National Pastime during the Living Room Era as voice of the CALIFORNIA ANGELS from 1968-78 propelled his broadcast career in to the national limelight, as his baseball foundation became a launching pad for other sports and national assignments," said HALL OF FAME President JEFF IDELSON. “In the years since, his assignments with NBC Sports and now the SAN DIEGO PADRES, his passion for the games – and for the fans who follow them through his friendly-and-ardent style – have made him one of sport’s most recognizable voices.”
