WJR/Detroit Raises Over A Million For Mitch Albom S.A.Y. Radiothon

CUMULUS MEDIA News/Talk WJR (760 AM)/DETROIT’s 2015 MITCH ALBOM S.A.Y. DETROIT RADIOTHON raised a record $1,002,748.00 for charity. The RADIOTHON, now in its fourth year, was broadcast live on WJR-AM on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10th, from 6a to 9p (ET) at SOMERSET COLLECTION in TROY, MI.
Host and author ALBOM welcomed special guests, including HUGH JACKMAN, PAUL STANLEY, BILLY BOB THORNTON, JANE PAULEY, JK SIMMONS, CRAIG FERGUSON, ALICE COOPER, DR. PHIL, TIM ALLEN, HOWARD SCHULTZ, DAVE BARRY, JOHN PIZZARELLI, MAYOR MIKE DUGGAN, BRUCE CORNBLATT, KEVIN EUBANKS, CHARLES WOODSON, MATT STAFFORD, STAN VAN GUNDY, BRAD AUSMUS, DAN GILBERT and BERNIE SMILOVITZ.
All proceeds of the RADIOTON go directly to benefit a host of local charities under the S.A.Y. umbrella. 100% of the funds raised go to help the people served by these charities, as ALBOM personally pays all administrative costs.
ALBOM, host of WJR’s “The MITCH ALBOM Show,” which airs weekdays from 5p.-7p (ET), is a newspaper columnist and bestselling author of books including: “Tuesdays With Morrie”, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” and his current book, “The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto."
S.A.Y. (SUPER ALL YEAR) DETROIT was founded in FEBRUARY, 2006, after ALBOM went public with a plea to do as much for the homeless that winter as the city was doing over a SUPER BOWL weekend. He spent a night in a homeless shelter to call attention to the issue. S.A.Y. DETROIT is dedicated to improving the lives of DETROIT’s neediest citizens, through shelter, food, medical care, volunteer efforts and education. It supports ongoing major projects incuding: S.A.Y. DETROIT FAMILY HEALTH CLINIC, S.A.Y. PLAY CENTER, WORKING HOMES/WORKING FAMILIES, and A TIME TO HELP.
