After a two-decade-plus run, MARIAH CAREY's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is no longer the most-played song of the holiday season at stores and retail chains, according to a report in PASTE MAGAZINE.
For the first time since it came out in 1994, CAREY has been topped by none other than THE SHINS with their version of PAUL McCARTNEY's "Wonderful CHRISTMAS Time," in a list compiled by SEATTLE-based PLAYNETWORK.
According to the survey, rounding out the Top 5 on the list are CHRISTINA AGUILERA's "CHRISTMAS Time," THE WAITRESSES' "CHRISTMAS Wrapping" and JACK JOHNSON's "Someday At CHRISTMAS."
PLAYNETWORKS' Director Of Music Services JULIA CUMMINGS said, 'KELLY CLARKSON's 'Underneath The Tree' is one of the only newer original songs to make the Top 20 this year, otherwise classics and covers tend to reign supreme. The songs themselves transcend demographics, which is why we see the same titles more than once, but performed by different artists."
