Rap star JOEY BADA$$ and his PRO ERA collective hosted their first annual holiday community celebration last SATURDAY night (DECEMBER 19th) at the FLATBUSH YMCA for 300 attendees, ranging in age from toddlers to teens to parents, with a bouncy house, inflated obstacle run, face-painting, carnival games, light-up hula hoops, temporary tattoos, catering donated by SWEET CHICK and SPAGHETTI INCIDENT and WAT-AAH water. PRO ERA DJ POWERS PLEASANT selected the music for dance contests judged by JOEY, with the winners awarded watches and headphones. As the children left, they were all given a gift wrapped in PRO ERA paper made especially for this event.
After the party, JOEY and the PROS played basketball with the local teens who also took home numerous items of JOEY's clothing and sneakers that he donated.
Said JOEY: "I grew up in FLATBUSH and always wanted to do something to give back to the community that raised me from a boy to a man. It was amazing to see kids from my neighborhood enjoy a day that the PROS and I were able to come together to give them. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children, parents, and even my own team warmed my heart greatly. Performing for thousands of people all over the world is a wonderfully flattering marker of celebrity, but giving back is a deeply meaningful symbol of success. I am thankful for everyone who helped me bring this vision to life and everyone who came through to show their love and support."
FLATBUSH YMCA Executive Director MEISHAY GATTIS added: "My staff and I felt overjoyed and grateful for JOEY's generosity; it was truly a gift to our community and we are thankful. It was so humbling to see joy and smiles on the youths and their families faces. The atmosphere was electrifying."
