Trademark applications from APPLE's BEATS ELECTRONICS had led to speculation the company plans to introduce more live streaming radio stations to go along with BEATS 1. According to the U.S. PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE, APPLE could be expanding to include BEATS 2, 3, 4 and 5.
The applications were first reported by FRENCH blog CONSOMAC, then APPLEINSIDER and TECHNOCRUNCH. The applications include the names of the stations themselves (BEATS 2, BEATS 3, etc.) as well as the logos, which include a stylized letter “b” followed by the station number.
THE VERGE originally reported in AUGUST that BEATS 1 may soon have company. APPLE had reportedly negotiated with record labels from the start for licenses to launch up to five additional stations following BEATS 1.
Now the question is the formats of the added stations, and whether they can put a dent in SPOTIFY's domination of the streaming space so far.
BEATS 1 complements APPLE MUSIC’s streaming service as a place for artist interviews, the launch of new tracks and albums, and the home for APPLE’s MUSIC FESTIVAL, in addition to music discovery.
