Two suspects in the CHRISTMAS assault on GALAXY COMMUNICATIONS Rock WKRL (K-ROCK)/SYRACUSE host JOE GROSVENT and his cousin have turned themselves in to local police, according to Sergeant RICHARD HELTERLINE, as reported by CNYCENTRAL.COM.
Police say 18-year-old NOUMAN KHAN and 20-year-old HAMZA KHAN, both of BINGHAMTON, NY, were charged TUESDAY night with third-degree assault and released on appearance tickets.
The charges come only hours after someone with the twitter handle @NoumanKingKhan tweeted a video of the moments leading up to the fight. The individual claimed: "They were racist, and they started the whole fight. It was self-defense."
The confrontation started when GROSVENT and his cousin, JAMES McELYEA, say they were leaving a bar just before midnight when they saw a group of five men harassing a homeless person.
McELYEA says the men got out of the vehicle and began to attack: pinning him to their car and repeatedly punching him in the throat, face and head, with the fight lasting only a few minutes. He believes an approaching automobile helped break up the fight, causing the assailants to take off in their BMW.
GROSVENT suffered a black eye and a bloody nose, while McELYEA was left with a fractured skull to which a metal plate had to be attached during his hospital stay.
