"RAMBLIN' LOU" SCHRIVER, the western NEW YORK Country bandleader who owned and hosted at Classic Country WXRL-A/LANCASTER-BUFFALO, NY since 1970, died SUNDAY (1/17) after a battle with heart problems in BUFFALO at 86, reports the BUFFALO NEWS.
SCHRIVER hosted "GRAND OLE COUNTRY WITH RAMBLIN' LOU" on WXRL 1-5p (ET) weekdays and 9a-1p SATURDAYs until his last show on DECEMBER 26th. He began his radio career in 1947 as a singer on a NIAGARA FAMS station; he served as PD at WWOL-A/BUFFALO in 1964-70 and, through his DOME COMMUNICATIONS, bought WMMJ-A/LANCASTER, NY and changed the calls to WXRL. SCHRIVER's "RAMBLIN' LOU FAMILY BAND," comprised of members of his own family, has appeared at AMERICA'S FAIR in HAMBURG, NY for several decades.
