The 2006 BROADCASTERS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA Celebrity Golf Tournament raised $250,000 to support fellow broadcasters in acute need. The tournament, sponsored by U.S. TRUST and co-chaired by ESPN’s TIM MCCARTHY and WNYW-TV (FOX 5)/NEW YORK's LEW LEONE, took place MONDAY (9/25) in GREENWICH, CT. CONNECTICUT SCHOOL OF BROADCASTING's SCOTT KNIGHT served as Executive Chair for the tournament.
The winning low gross team was headed by WCBS-TV (CBS 2)/NEW YORK Sports Anchor CHRIS WRAGGE with ARBITRON's RICH TUNKEL and JENNIFER DECASTRO and BMI's MICHAEL STEINBERG and MIKE O'NEILL. The RAB foursome -- GARY FRIES, RON RUTH, JIM BELOYIANIS, and DAN SAVADOVE -- teamed with former NEW YORK JET GREG BUTTLE to take the low net prize at 48. Longest drive honors went to MACON MOYE and BONNIE VERBITSKY.
Next year's Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on SEPTEMBER 17 at the WEE BURN COUNTRY CLUB in DARIEN, CT.
