Veteran sports radio programmer JASON BARRETT will be presenting his own awards for the best in sports radio nationwide with “The 2015 Best in Sports Radio Awards.”
BARRETT SPORTS MEDIA, BARRETT’s consultancy, will “identify the 20 best local sports morning, midday, and afternoon shows, and the nation's best national sports talk show,” according to a press release. Two other categories will honor the top 20 local sports radio stations and programmers. The winners will be chosen by a panel of over 30 of the format’s top executives.
BARRETT, the former PD at stations like KGMZ (95.7 THE GAME)/SAN FRANCISCO, WXOS (101 ESPN) and KFNS-A/ST. LOUIS, and WPEN-A/PHILADELPHIA, explaining the process, said, "Many who contributed to this project are tasked on a daily basis with hiring, scouting and coaching talent, generating ratings, and staying informed on what's happening in the industry. A number of them have run iconic brands or worked in multiple markets and they've played a big role in shaping the format's success."
He added, "I felt the right people needed to be included in order for this list to have credibility. I pursued leaders from multiple companies and different pockets of the country because I wanted to avoid any company or geographical bias. When the results are revealed next week, I think the personalities who perform in our format will appreciate them because it gives them a better sense of how they're seen by the brightest minds and biggest decision makers in our industry".
The results will be announced on BARRETT’s website sportsradiopd.com starting FEBRUARY 1st through FEBRUARY 8th.
