iHEARTMEDIA/ALBANY, GA Urban WJIZ (96.3) and Urban AC WMRZ (98.1 KISS) have collected bottles of water for the residents of FLINT, MI.
PD MISS MONIQUE has headed there to assist RICKEY SMILEY cast members JUICY & JEFF JOHNSON distribute water this morning at LOWE’s. (NET NEWS 1/29) Immediately afterwards, she will broadcast live back to her stations and then personally deliver water to residents.
She told ALL ACCESS, "After learning of the FLINT water crisis over a year ago, honestly I didn't know it was as bad as it was. Being born and raised in FLINT I knew I had to do something. After hearing our morning show host RICKEY SMILEY stress wanting to help FLINT I reached out to MARSHA MEADOWS- WHITEHEAD who works with his foundation and she informed me of their plans for TODAY’s broadcast and I decided to partner with them and broadcast as well."
“We started a 3-day broadcast from sun-up to sun-down from our iHEARTMEDIA/ALBANY offices and started collecting bottled water and water filters. Local businesses donated food to grill for the community along with a U-HAUL truck that was actually too small to carry all of the water for the 14 hour ride to FLINT. The outpouring of support was awesome inside our stations and in the community was awesome; the volunteers that offered to drive to FLINT from ALBANY are greatly appreciated. The water that is left over will be donated to another former FLINT resident here in town who's traveling with water to FLINT next WEEKEND.”
“I am very aware that FLINT MICHIGAN needs more than bottled water but in the meantime there are residents that include senior citizens and single moms without transportation that can't get to locations to receive the donations. I have over 30 homes that I will be delivering water to and there is a team of FLINT residents (former residents as well) that will be assisting. I still have some family members that live there as well as friends. Some can't use their water at all and some say they still bath and shower in it. This is a really sad situation and I pray that it is somehow rectified.”
