PLAYLISTS.NET, the playlist sharing site acquired by WARNER MUSIC GROUP, offers a human-curated "PLAYLIST A DAY" from SPOTIFY via a new app available for iOS and ANDROID users, according to a story in TECH CRUNCH.
Powered by PLAYLIST.NET's 175,000-plus library gathered over the last five years, each new selection shows up on your phone’s lock screen in the form of a push notification, with a new themed playlist daily. Clicking on it opens the playlist in the PLAYLIST A DAY app, displaying accompanying art work and description.
Each playlist is hand-picked by the PLAYLISTS.NET editorial team, and you’ll need to be a SPOTIFY Premium subscriber to fully utilize the new app.
PLAYLISTS.NET Founder KIERON DONOGHUE told TECH CRUNCH the idea was a natural extension of the app. "There is so much choice out there when it comes to what to listen to that it becomes a challenge to find something new and interesting. Algorithms solve this problem partly but I still say you can’t beat human curation.”
SPOTIFY's recently launched "DISCOVER WEEKLY" feature pushes a playlist to users each MONDAY that is unique to their own listening habits, thanks in part to its acquisition of THE ECHO NEST. APPLE MUSIC has also prided itself on human curation as opposed to algorithms.
