The FCC nails a pirate operator in SAN DIEGO with a $500 fine, reducing the fine from $10,000. JONI K. CRAIG argued that she played only a passive role in the operation of a pirate at 106.9 FM broadcasting from her garage, that she tried to have the station shut down, and that she cannot afford to pay the proposed fine. The Commission rejected the first two arguments but reduced the fine based on financial hardship.
And NEW YORK pirates MOISES CABRERA and JUAN CABRERA get fined $10,000 for running an unlicensed station at 89.7 FM.
In addition, RENDA BROADCASTING gets a $3,000 fine for antenna-registration violations at its WJAS-A/PITTSBURGH.
And RICHARD A. PETERSON and JOANN R. PETERSON, as Joint Tenants, get hit with an $8,000 fine for EAS violations at KBSZ-A/WICKENBURG, AZ.
