WASHINGTON, DC-based WORLDSPACE intends to begin satellite-radio service in ITALY next year and then expand to other countries, while SPAIN-based ONDAS MEDIA has scheduled a full EUROPEAN satellite-radio launch in 2010, BBC NEWS reports. The companies' services will reportedly carry up to 250 channels.
"We'll have a mix of a wide variety of music genres," ONDAS Chairman TORSTEN FREYMARK tells the BBC. "Jazz, classical, oldies rock, house, country -- whatever people's listening habits are, we'll do it." FREYMARK added that ONDAS is in discussions with car manufacturers but will also offer portable units.
