Someone's put a hold on the renomination of FCC Chairman KEVIN MARTIN, according to BROADCASTING AND CABLE, which reports that the SENATE floor vote on MARTIN is being held up by an unnamed senator whom the magazine speculates may be Sen. JOHN SUNUNU (R-NH).
B&C also suggests that the issue prompting the hold is a concern over the issue of e911 (911 emergency service over VOIP internet-delivered telephone service). Even without a vote, MARTIN can continue to serve through the close of the next Congress (FALL 2007), although he can also get a recess appointment after the Senate adjourns on OCTOBER 30.
