Jim 'Taz' Taszarek Passes Away

JIM TASZAREK, the former KTAR-A and KKLT/PHOENIX VP/GM who became one of radio's most respected sales consultants, passed away THURSDAY (2/26) in PHOENIX. TASZAREK had been battling cancer and entered a hospice this week.
"TAZ" began his career on the air WEW-A, KCFM, KWK-A, and KMOX-A/ST. LOUIS and then moved into sales for radio and TV, ascending to GM in several markets before his first stint at KTAR-KKLT in 1981-83. After a 4 year run as EVP/Chief Revenue Officer at AMERICAN CITY BUSINESS JOURNALS in KANSAS CITY, TAZ returned to the PHOENIX combo as VP/GM in 1987-95, then launched TAZMEDIA, his consultancy, spreading his sales philosophy throughout the industry. He also served as a VP/GM at RADIO INK, where he wrote a column on radio sales, and on the boards of the NAB and RAB.
