The SUPREME COURT decides not to hear a challenge to the election laws that ban third-party advocacy spots on TV and radio referring to a candidate within 30 days of a federal primary election and 60 days of a general election. The court, in a one-line comment calling the suit moot, dismissed a case brought by the CHRISTIAN CIVIC LEAGUE OF MAINE against the FEC after it was refused the opportunity to buy ads opposing gay marriage before the JUNE 7 elections; the ads mentioned Sens. OLYMPIA SNOWE and SUSAN COLLINS (R-ME). The case was dismissed earlier this year by a three-judge federal panel, and the SUPREME COURT agreed with the FEC that the case is now moot.
