CUMULUS News-Talk KMJ-A-F/FRESNO host RAY APPLETON was honored as the BOY SCOUTS SEQUOIA COUNCIL Citizen of the Year on TUESDAY evening (3/15).
Over 100 local friends, family members, and dignitaries turned out, including FRESNO Mayor ASHLEY SWEARENGIN, RAY's son RORY, and KMJ's JOHN BROESKE; they heard APPLETON tell his own remarkable scouting story from JULY 4, 1962, involving his winning a greased watermelon contest, then getting severely injured when impaled by a piece of metal from a bridge collapse, and being treated by a doctor who later turned out to be wanted for Nazi war crimes.
